Bee hotels have become an increasingly popular way to support pollinators at home, but not all bee hotels are created equal. Many traditional designs fall short - with poor airflow, short nesting tubes, and materials that degrade quickly over time. That’s why we’ve launched Habitat One on Kickstarter, a new kind of bee hotel designed specifically for solitary bees and built to last.

We’ve partnered with our friends at Waterhaul to make Habitat One from recycled marine plastic, giving new life to discarded fishing nets and ocean waste. But this isn’t just about materials - it’s about improved design. The modular structure allows you to start with a single unit and expand over time, while a replaceable nesting cartridge system ensures the habitat can be renewed season after season.
Each cartridge contains optimally sized nesting tubes, carefully spaced to allow airflow and help manage moisture - two key factors often overlooked in standard bee hotels. This creates a healthier environment for solitary bees to nest and develop.
There are over 276 bee species in the UK, and many are in decline after losing 97% of their wildflower meadows since the 1930s- a vital source of habitat and food.
Bee hotels are designed for solitary bees, which don’t live in hives, produce honey, or have a queen. These bees are further divided into two groups: cavity-nesting and ground-nesting species. Cavity-nesting bees are the types that use bee hotels. You can read more about this in our blog here.
Whether you have a garden, balcony, or shared outdoor space, Habitat One is designed to fit naturally into a range of environments while supporting local pollinator populations. We’ve just launched Habitat One on Kickstarter, and early supporters can access limited early bird rewards as part of the campaign.
Buzz on over to our Kickstarter campaign! 🐝
This is an all-or-nothing campaign; if we don't reach our target by Fri, May 8, at 10 am (GMT), you won't be charged, and we won't get to fulfil any rewards. So please share our campaign as much as you feel comfortable to help us reach our target - every share and every conversation helps.
By supporting Habitat One, you’re not only helping to create better habitats for bees but you’re also helping turn ocean waste into something genuinely useful.
